SAFEGUARDING POLICY

Safeguarding and Looked After Children

Thames View Bridge School believes that all pupils deserve access to a broad and balanced curriculum and the opportunities to make as much progress as possible, whether they are on a Child Protection Plan, are a Child In Need or a Looked After Child.  We will make sure that we put into place any support and interventions to give these pupils a chance to achieve.

All staff receive information about the school’s safeguarding arrangements and receive safeguarding and child protection training at induction in line with advice from the Local Children’s Safeguarding Children’s Board which is regularly updated. Staff also receive safeguarding and child protection updates (for example, via email, e-bulletins and staff meetings), as required, but at least annually. All members of staff are trained in, and receive regular updates in, online safety and reporting concerns.  All staff and governors have regular child protection awareness training, updated   by the DSL as appropriate, to maintain their understanding of the signs and indicators of abuse.

Thames View Bridge School will ensure that staff have the necessary skills and understanding to keep looked after children safe. Appropriate staff have information about a child’s looked after legal status and care arrangements, including the level of authority delegated to the carer by the authority looking after the child and contact arrangements with birth parents or those with parental responsibility.  The DSL has details of the child’s social worker and the name and contact details of their LA’s Virtual School Head for children in care.  The designated teacher for looked after child works with the virtual school head to discuss how Pupil Premium Plus funding can be best used to support the progress of looked after children in the school and meet the needs in the child’s personal education plan.
